2nds Outmuscled by Buxted
The 2nds outplayed Buxted for long periods of their final League game, but were foiled by some inspired goalkeeping and lost out to three sucker goals in the first half. The game was played at the Alderbrook due to Buxted's pitch being waterlogged, and the 'hosts' took the lead after only eight minutes, our defence being caught completely square and two Buxted players raced through with only Sarah to beat which they duly did. Their second goal had more than an element of good luck to it, as a speculative lob caught the wind and just dropped under the crossbar even though Sarah was on her line and well positioned. After a couple of excellent reflex saves by Buxted keeper Christina Jesty, Nat Waller got the goal her attacking play deserved as she rode two challenges and, although Jesty got a partial block on her shot, it spun in off the inside of the post. Unfortunately within a few minutes it was 3-1, a Buxted player being allowed to run half the length of the pitch without a serious challenge to score from close range. Sarah was injured in trying to make the save, was was replaced in goal at half-time by Kim who did not have a serious save to make for the remainder of the game. However, with the strong breeze in our faces and the sticky pitch becoming increasingly hard to play on, Buxted were able to close out the match without too much trouble.

2nds Lack Cutting Edge
The 2nds went down 0-3 to Redhill Reserves in a game which saw Tina make her competitive comeback after injury. With the advantage of the Jarvis Brook slope in the first half, Redhill dominated and took the lead on 15 minutes when ex-League rep player Kerry Short got behind the defence and made no mistake when one-on-one with Sarah. Despite fielding both Kerry and Laura as our allowed first teamers, we struggled defensively throughout the half and went in at the break 0-3 down. A much better second half performance should have seen us pull back at least one goal but despite creating a few decent chances we were unable to take advantage. Our final game next week is away at Buxted, which we must win to finish on positive points, and they must beat us (and hope Redhill lose) to avoid relegation.

2nd Teamers Impress in Friendly Victory
A mix 'n match Crowborough XI played a warm-up fixture at Haywards Heath to assist them in their County Cup Final preparations and came away with a 2-0 win, both goals courtesy of Ellie. Congratulations to Sarah, Kim, Lisa, Lois and Laura B, all of whom played a significant part in the win, and to Tina on making a successful comeback from her awful ankle injury sustained back in October. After a wobbly start, we looked much the better side for the first half hour, deservedly going ahead via Ellie's 25-yard screamer, but then relaxed to let Heath back into the game, and were looking decidedly ragged by half time. However, the second half was much more even although Sarah was rarely troubled, Ellie making the result safe with around 15 minutes left, weaving through two defenders and Heath keeper Vicky Lank to score from close range. Plus points were Sam and Ellie's sometimes superb interplay up front, the back three (with TC playing the 'Michelle' role) who looked safe all night and Fran putting in a good performance in an unaccustomed central midfield role.
