A Perfect Birthday Present
The firsts provided Spike with the perfect present on his birthday as they knocked favourites Redhill out of the League Cup 4-1 on their own ground. Without ever playing to our potential, we managed to contain them for the whole game, recovering well from our mistakes and riding our luck on many occasions. Despite looking second best for most of the first half, we took the lead just before half time when Rachael was brought down for a clear penalty which Cha fired low into the bottom left corner. Our luck held again just after the break when a superb strike from one of their forwards cannoned off the underside of the bar. There was more than a whiff of controversy for our second, as their linesman flagged for offside as the ball was played forward but was overruled by the ref, the ball eventually breaking for Rachael who hit a superb 25-yarder past their giant goalie Debbie Workman. Workman herself had an assist in our third, muffing her save from Kirsty and allowing the ball to spin onto the inside of the post and Ellie tucked it home as it ran along the goal line. Redhill then missed a penalty awarded against Tracey Naden for handball, and were denied another when Cha brought down one of their strikers in the area. Rachael put the result beyond any doubt with her second five minutes from time, and they grabbed a late consolation in stoppage time.

Hooray! 1sts & 2nds Both Play! 1sts & 2nds Both Win!
Despite the fact that both the pitches at Alderbrook and Limekilns resembled vegetable patches, we actually managed to get both games played this week! The 1sts made it 8 games unbeaten with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Dover, the goal coming from Kirsty after good work from Cha, Ellie and Rachael. We missed a penalty 20 minutes into the game and survived a few scares, especially in the second half when Woody palmed the ball away from Ali Turner's head when it looked a certain goal. The seconds gave debuts to Nat Waller, Lisa Price and Becky Cummins, and got revenge for the defeat at Valley last year with a 5-3 win, and Becky C scoring two - the other goals coming from Becky James(2) and Nat Bungay.

I Can't Stand the Rain...

The ploppy weather this week can meant the League Cup fixture with Redhill is off yet again, and the Jarvis Brook pitch was too wet for a friendly for the 2nds. Next week Redhill are playing a County Cup semi final, so we'll be trying to put on a League fixture at home to Dover. The 2nds are also at home, to our old friends Valley Valiants.

Cup draws made + Friendly for 2nds
The Semi Final draws for the League Cup and Reserves Cup were made last night. Good news for the 2nds is that they've avoided Brighton and holders Redhill and will be away to Hastings Reserves on a date to be set by the League. If the firsts manage to dispose of both Redhill and Woking in the League Cup, we've avoided Malling and will be away to the winners of Southdown, Chichester or Hastings. As the 2nds don't have a scheduled League fixture this week (really!) we've provisionally agreed to play a home friendly with Div 3 side Milford & Witley, but this is subject to confirmation of an available pitch at Jarvis Brook. Watch this space for updates.

Another Wet One...
The weather was again the victor this weekend with both 1sts and 2nds called off due to waterlogged pitches. The firsts' Cup tie with Redhill goes ahead to next week, is now automatically switched away from home but will still be a 1.30pm kick off.
