| Big Improvement as Firsts Score Seven at Hastings | ||
| The firsts had a good run out at the Pilot Field against a decent Hastings side they'll be playing in the Premier Division later this year and again impressed with their passing game, keeping possession for long periods. Unlike last week, the opening twenty minutes were quite scrappy with both sides battling for everything, and we were dangerously caught a few times at the back by their pacy strikers. However, a good right wing run by Kim lead to a low cross by Sam which was powered in by TC from 6 yards. This lead to a purple patch for us and we scored three more times in fairly quick succession, Ellie hitting our second followed by Rachael, and then Rachael was gifted a second after a mix-up in their defence. A lapse in concentration in the last few seconds of the half following an injury to one of their players gifted them a goal on the stroke of half time. The second half followed a similar pattern, our fifth coming from a massive punt from Woody which allowed Ellie to get clear of their defence and shoot under the keeper. Rachael got her hat-trick from close range after they failed to clear a corner, Woody then kept their interest up by fluffing a catch which their striker put away despite Tracey Naden trying to clear off the line, and Sam had the final word knocking in a 25-yarder for our seventh. | ||

| Cup Draws Made | ||
| The draws for the Reserves and League Cups were made tonight, the 2nds having to play a Preliminary Round Reserves Cup tie at home to Worcester Park Reserves before taking on Brighton 3rds in a re-run of last years Final if they win through. The firsts have an away tie in the League Cup 1st Round against the winners of Senacre Dolphins (featuring ex-players Angie Sutcliffe and Kate Maryon) or Crawley Down (who gave the 2nds a battering in last season's friendly). | ||

| Clean Sheets in Friendlies | ||
|
We kicked off our programme of friendlies with our regular "double header" against Haywards Heath, the firsts running out reasonably comfortable 3-0 winners despite playing most of the first half with only 10 players. Missing a few regulars, it looked like we would only have the bare eleven to start with other players turning up later, but Nat just didn't appear! However, we played excellent possession football for the first 20 minutes and deservedly took the lead through Amy after good work from Ellie and Rachael. Laura then turned up and was immediately pressed into service at left back. Haywards Heath came back into the game and we survived a few scares before a long punt upfield from Woody caught them square and Ellie raced away to score. Her second, about 10 minutes from the end, followed a good right wing run from TC, and she caught the cross perfectly on the volley to see it scream into the net. A very mix-and-match second team (Sam in goal, Woody and TC as centre backs anyone?) fought out a goalless draw with Haywards Heath 2nds. After an extremely scrappy first half in which nobody did anything much of note, we finished much the stronger and only a string of fine saves from their keeper and the woodwork (several times!) prevented us scoring. |

| 10th Anniversary Celebration Day | ||
|
The 10th Anniversary celebration went off superbly on a blazing hot day. in the match, we drew 1-1 with the League Rep XI, Ellie giving us the lead on 15 minutes from a superbly unselfish lay-off from Rachael after drawing their whole defence. Their equaliser came roughly on the half hour, just after we'd had made a rash of substitutions and were reorganising. All in all, a good game to watch with plenty of missed chances (they missed at least 3 one-on-ones) with Cha's mazy run beating four players and hitting the inside of the post the pick of ours. Afterwards, the BBQ was enjoyed by all and a number of presentations were made: Long Service Awards to Kerry, TC, Andi and Terri who have played every season since the start, plus end of season awards for last last two years (seeing as we couldn't afford the trophies for 2000/01!) |
