Summer 2003 News

Wednesday 30th July
Venue Change for Friendies
Due to the extensive drainage work done on the Alderbrook pitches over the summer and the extended spell of hot weather hampering recovery from this work, the August friendlies will now all be played at Jarvis Brook. We are hoping that the clubhouse at Alderbrook will be open after the games for hospitality.

League Fixtures Released
The first team kick off the new season with an away game at newly promoted Haywards Heath, who we host in a friendly on 10th August. The 2nds also have a game against a promoted side, at home to Eastbourne. The first six weeks' games can be seen in the Results section, while full League fixtures are on the League's website www.secwfl.org.uk.

FA Cup Draw
The FA Cup Qualifying Round draws were made today, giving us a home tie against Maidstone Mavrix on Sunday 7th September. They are a new club formed from players who fell out with the ruling junta at Maidstone United. If we beat them we will be away to the winners of the game between Dynamo North London (Greater London League Div 4E, finished 3rd last year behind London Colney) and Hastings.

Wednesday 23rd July
Friendly for 17th August Confirmed
We'll be playing Hassocks, provisionally at the Alderbrook, kicking off at 2pm.

Tuesday 15th July
League Constitution Decided
The League Management Committee last night decided the constitution of the various divisions comprising the league. The first team will face promoted sides Woodstock (ex Westbourne), Spelthorne and Haywards Heath in addition to renewing acquaintances with old rivals Redhill, Whitehawk, Woking, Lewes (ex Ringmer), Chichester and Dover. The 2nds will have more games as Division Two has been expanded to 12 teams, although three will be relegated at the end of the season. New opponents are Abbey Rangers (relegated from Division One), Lindfield, Woking Reserves, Eastbourne, Crawley Wasps and Whitstable Town, while Milford & Witley, Meadow Sports, Redhill Reserves, Castle Colts and Buxted remain from last year. Fixtures for the first six weeks of the season should be available in the next couple of weeks.

New Coach Impresses
New club coach Andy Hall got a unanimous vote of confidence from the players after an excellent first session last night, to the extent that from next Sunday (20th) we'll also be training on Sundays until the friendlies start in August. Sunday sessions will be at 2.00pm, hopefully at the Alderbrook.

Monday 7th July
Bye Roby!
Roby flew back to Texas at short notice, ending her time at the Club both as 2nd Team player and, more recently, stand-in Coach. Thanks from everyone at the club for your great humour, enthusiasm and help over the last year. We'll all miss you.
